Private Pilot License

Where The Sky Becomes Your Classroom!

Is your heart is set on an aviation career? Do you intend to fly just for fun?  No matter your dreams, our FAA 14 CFR Part 61 Private Pilot Training Program will help you make more efficient use of your time on the ground as well as in the airplane and can be customized to fit around your work/school schedule.

With our team of professional flight instructors, we will help you earn your Private Pilot License in either an accelerated timeframe, or at a pace that best suits your learning style, all our our aircraft.

A Private Pilot License (PPL) allows command of any aircraft that weighs less than 12,500 lbs (subject to appropriate ratings) for all non-commercial purpose and provides authority to fly under visual flight rules (VFR).  With a PPL, pilots may carry passengers, however, a private pilot may not be compensated for their services.

Federal regulations stipulate the following requirements:

  • Be at least 16 years old to solo.

  • Be at least 17 years old to obtain a Private Pilot License (PPL).

  • Be able to read, write, speak and understand English.

  • Be able to obtain at least a 3rd Class Medical Certificate.

  • Receive and log ground training from an authorized instructor.

  • Accumulate and log a specified amount of flight time from an authorized instructor.

  • Pass an FAA Written Knowledge Test.

  • Pass a Practical Test consisting of both an oral examination and a flight test during what is called a “check ride.”

What can you do with your Private Pilot License?

PPL is a “License to Learn”.  Once you have received your private pilot certificate, you are able to *rent from Victory Lane Aviation’s unique fleet under VFR conditions.  The private pilot certificate is the minimum requirement for adding other ratings and advanced certifications.  VLA offers most advanced certificates and ratings.

*requires aircraft checkout per aircraft

How long will it take?

For many students, it takes several months to obtain their PPL.  Flying regularly with a minimum of 2-3 flights a week combined with studying at home will be more effective and save time and money.  Each lesson is structured to cover the specific maneuvers needed to master in order to earn a certificate. This training prepares the student to take both the written and practical tests. By dedicating 2-3 flight lessons a week, you could finish up in approximately 6 months

Program Summary:

Flight instruction consists of three stages:

  • Pre-Solo & Flight Maneuvers: Students learn the fundamentals of flying, including normal aircraft operating procedures, flight maneuvers, and how to handle basic emergencies. Once the instructor deems you safe, you will conduct your first solo flight.

  • Cross-Country Flight & Night Flight: You will learn the skills required for planning and executing cross country flights and be exposed to a variety of conditions, such as flying at night and in and out of different types of airports/airspace.

  • Test Prep & Check ride: We will help you put together everything you have learned and practice any weak areas to ensure that you are prepared and confident to successfully complete your FAA written test and check ride.  Now you are ready to apply for your Private Pilot License.
